Reading Comprehension Skill

                In each unit, you will work on a different reading skill. The first exercises in each unit are easy. But then they become more difficult. You should do the exercise in order. Do not skip any of the exercises.

                Be sure to read the directions before you begin to work. In some of the exercises, you must work with another student. Be sure to do that. You will improve your English that way. Academic vocabulary can be difficult to define. One broad definition is the vocabulary which can be used in academic contexts.

General Guidelines of Reading Comprehension skills :

1.      The purpose and utility of the exercise in each unit should always be discussed with the students before doing the unit.

2.      The whole class should work together on the introduction and examples at the beginning of each unit.

3.      Students should enjoy these exercises. The teacher can introduce competitions or other game-like activities to increase the involvement and fun for the students.

4.      Whenever possible, Students should work in pairs in these units. The exercises lose much of their effectiveness when done individually.

5.      The units and the exercises within each unit should be done in order and at a steady pace. If students have already covered similar exercises in class, some exercises can be assigned for homework. However , students should not try new exercises on their own.

6.      In some of the exercises, where students write their own answers, their wording may vary from the wording in the Answer Key, but the meaning should be the same.
